Si existe un factor de identidad, cohesión, enfrentamiento, y de definición en el entorno medieval, este fue, sin duda alguna, la religión. Tanto la fe, como la legitimación política, el reformismo, la jerarquización, propaganda e, incluso, una cierta pulsión “coleccionista”, resultan elementos indiscutiblemente determinantes y relacionados con la religiosidad y el mundo de las reliquias en la Edad Media. De este modo, prestando especial atención al ámbito cristiano, aunque con alguna mención notable del espacio musulmán, proponemos, de la mano de diversos especialistas, un recorrido desde el siglo IV hasta los albores de la modernidad.
Todo ello, desde varias disciplinas que englobarían la historia, la perspectiva material, la historia del arte y la perspectiva sociocultural a lo largo de toda la Edad Media.
If there is one factor of identity, cohesion, confrontation and definition in the medieval environment, it was undoubtedly religion. It is beyond dispute that faith, political legitimisation, reformism, hierarchisation, propaganda and even a certain ‘collecting’ impulse were determining elements related to religiosity and the world of relics in the Middle Ages. In this way, with particular focus on the Christian context, although with some noteworthy reference to the Muslim sphere, we propose, with the assistance of various specialists, a journey from the 4th century to the advent of modernity. This will be explored through a variety of disciplines, including history, the material perspective, the history of art and the socio-cultural perspective throughout the Middle Ages.
